You are about to start the backswing of your golf swing. Here is how you should set up on the tee box, in a perfect address position with your hands on top of the club and grip it firmly with both hands:

  • Place your feet shoulder width apart in front of the golf ball on the tee box.
  • Tilt your hips to an angle that allows you to stand up straight while keeping a slight bend in the knees.
  • Put all of your weight on one foot that’s outside of yours (the back foot). This ensures correct posture during swing and follow through phases.

3. Keep Your Hands Close To The Clubface

If you’re just starting out, or if you want to improve your golf swing, keep your hands as close to the clubface as possible. This helps to take pressure off the left arm (or right arm if you’re the other hand!) and improves the release of power through impact.

4. Develop A Specific Routine

Practice your golf swing by following a specific routine. Choose a practice routine that makes sense to you depending on your skill level.

  • To start, stand on the tee box and shake out your arms and shoulders, then take about 5 minutes to stretch out before beginning the swing.
  • Warm up as you would normally before playing (meaning hit some balls with a club in from about 60 yards).
  • Begin swinging with just the driver until you’re comfortable swinging with both clubs, then test out each club’s precise specifications on shorter shots (namely the distances and how heavy or light it should be) for a total of 10 swings before continuing.
